Shun Bad Gangs, Ogun Rector Tell New Students

Dr Adeoye Odedeji, de rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), don advise new students to avoid bad gangs and any group wey fit spoil their future and career. Him give dis advice during de 2023-2024 matriculation and oath-taking ceremony for de new students on Thursday.

Odedeji announce say from next year, students wey graduate from de polytechnic go receive two certificates: one for their field of study and another for vocational skill dem go acquire during their course of study. MAPOLY don adopt de National Skills Qualification Framework to make sure students get vocational skills like plumbing, phone repair, and event decoration.

“Students go get de chance to acquire skills during their time here and dem go receive certificates for dese skills. So, aside from their academic qualifications, dem go also be trained in vocational skills supported by de National Skills Qualification Framework…. No student go graduate without completing at least one skill, leading to dual certification in their field of study,” Odedeji explain.

De rector emphasize say de polytechnic recognize dat without proper management of human element, even de most advanced technology fit be undermined. MAPOLY value not only academic achievements and potential but also strong character traits, skills, and competencies wey go make both de polytechnic and de students’ mentors and parents proud.

Odedeji advise de new students to be mindful of who dem associate with. “Reject any unsolicited assistance and steer clear of activities dat could tarnish de reputation of de institution or your families. Instead, channel your energy into positive and productive endeavours dat will earn you lasting recognition,” him say.

“Let me remind you dat your primary goal on dis campus is to obtain your certificates, which we are committed to helping you achieve…. However, de polytechnic’s management will not tolerate anti-social behaviour, examination misconduct, indecent dressing, or involvement in secret societies, all of which you have pledged to avoid today,” Odedeji add.

De rector also urge students who no fit finance their studies to take advantage of de Nigerian Education Loan Fund, sharing success stories of those who have benefitted from de scheme.
