JAMB, wey be Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, don announce say dem dey allow tertiary institutions to admit candidates wey go turn 16 years old by August 31, 2025. Dis decision come out from statement wey JAMB Spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, release on Thursday in Abuja.
Before now, some institutions no dey admit students wey no reach 18 years, despite say 2024 Policy Meeting decide say minimum admission age go be 16 years for dis year and 18 years for next year. But now, JAMB say any institution wey willing fit admit candidates wey meet their standards, even if dem no reach 18 years yet.
Dr. Benjamin explain say dis decision no go compromise de standard or infringe on individual institution’s admission policy. He say institutions should gather list of candidates wey go turn 16 years old between January 1 and August 31, 2025, and submit dem within one week.
Dis move aim to ensure equal opportunities and prevent disproportionate benefits for those wey get admitted towards de end of de 2024/2025 admission period.
Muhammed Babaji, Director of Admissions, also confirm dis development, saying institutions wey insist on maintaining minimum age of 16 years as of 2024 are free to do so.
