Sunshine Stars head coach, Kennedy Boboye, don dey blame the bushy pitch of Kwara Sports Complex in Ilorin for their 3-0 loss to Kwara United on Wednesday’s NPFL matchday seven.
According to Boboye, the overgrown grass on the pitch prevent his players from playing their normal game. He say, “The pitch was part of the problem that affected our playing; not that we are not used to grass, but the bone of contention was that the grass was not cut and badly maintained.”
Boboye also express surprise that the pitch was approved for the game without proper maintenance. He add, “I don’t know how a pitch like that was approved for games and they failed to cut it before the matchday.”
Kwara United, who are used to the turf, manage to score two goals in the first half through Alalade Wasiu in the 30th and 38th minutes. Despite Sunshine Stars’ efforts, Kwara United’s goalkeeper Emmanuel Ofori stop them from scoring, and an unmarked Shola Abdulraheem score the third goal in the 73rd minute.
Sunshine Stars will next play host to Nasarawa United at Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, in a week eight match of the League.
