Schneider Electric, one of the big players in digital transformation and energy management, don announce say dem go acquire Motivair, a company wey specialize in data centre cooling solutions, for $850 million.
Under the terms of the deal, Schneider Electric go buy 75% controlling interest in Motivair for an all-cash transaction of $850 million. Dem also plan to buy the remaining 25% by 2028. This acquisition go help Schneider Electric strengthen their position in the data centre market, especially in liquid cooling solutions for high-performance computing.
Motivair, wey be based in Buffalo, New York, and founded in 1988, get over 150 employees. The company dey known for their coolant distribution units, rear door heat exchangers, cold plates, and heat dissipation units, alongside chillers for thermal management. Motivair president and CEO, Rich Whitmore, go continue to run the business after the transaction close.
The acquisition dey driven by the increasing demand for efficient cooling solutions due to the growth of artificial intelligence and large language models. Traditional air cooling systems no dey enough to handle the high heat generated by these advanced computing systems, so liquid cooling technologies become necessary.
Schneider Electric CEO, Peter Herweck, say, “The acquisition of Motivair represents an important step, furthering our world-leading position across the data centre value chain.” He add say, “The unique liquid cooling portfolio of Motivair complements our value proposition in data centre cooling and further strengthens our prominent position in data centre buildout from grid to chip and from chip to chiller.”
The transaction dey subject to customary closing conditions, including required regulatory approvals, and expected to close in the coming quarters.
