Law Firm Wins Big: Lila Silverstein and Colleagues Shine in Appellate Practice

One of the top appellate lawyers in the United States, Lila Silverstein, is set to speak at the 9th Annual Advanced Appellate Practice program on November 19th and 20th, 2024. This event, organized by Pincus Professional Education, will feature a stellar lineup of legal experts, including former Washington Supreme Court Justice Philip Talmadge and 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Hon. Kim McLane Wardlaw.

Lila Silverstein, known for her tireless advocacy in protecting constitutional rights and ensuring equal access to justice, has been an appellate public defender since 2006. She has represented indigent clients in various high-profile cases, most notably the landmark case of State v. Gregory, where she successfully argued that Washington’s capital punishment scheme was unconstitutional due to racial bias.

Her contributions to the legal community extend beyond her case work. Lila has volunteered her time presenting Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs, writing amicus briefs, and serving on bar committees. She played a significant role in drafting Washington’s General Rule 37, which provides strong protections against race discrimination in jury selection.

Lila’s dedication and excellence have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the King County Bar Association’s Outstanding Lawyer of the Year Award, the William O. Douglas Award, and the Kathleen Taylor Civil Libertarian Award from the ACLU of Washington.
