Lagos Govt Partner Financial Firms to Empower Indigent Women Traders

Lagos State government don dey work hand in hand with some financial institutions to help indigent women traders in the state. Dis partnership aim to make loans easily available to these women so dem fit boost their business capital and be financially literate.

Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih-Awokoya, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, talk say dis partnership na part of her office responsibility to promote human capital development through advocacy programmes. She explain say to benefit from dis programme, the women traders must have National Identification Number (NIN) and Lagos State Resident Registration Agency (LASRRA) registration.

Representatives from financial institutions like OPAY and Cowry Wise also talk about the importance of dis programme. Mr. Adedotun Adekunle from OPAY say dem dey try to get many people into the financial ecosystem, educate dem, and empower dem to do business and earn a living. Mr. Oyeyinka Oyekan from Cowry Wise add say their core objective since 2017 na to make savings and investment accessible to all Africans, regardless of their social-economic background.

Dem also emphasize say financial literacy na key part of sustainable development growth. By fostering financial literacy, dem aim to reduce barriers in economic participation and enable long-term participation for individuals and their families, especially in underserved communities.
