Pasuma, Currency and Super Eagles‘ humiliation dey trend for Nigeria now, and e no be small thing. Recently, Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, suffer serious humiliation for Libya during an AFCON return leg match. The Libyan authorities treat the Eagles like trash, debeaking, defeathering, declawing, detaining, and disgracing them without even letting them kick a ball.
The whole saga start when the Libyan national team land in Port Harcourt instead of Uyo, where the match suppose hold. According to Pius Ayinor, Media Officer of the Super Eagles B team, the Libyan team no inform the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of their change in plans until they were already airborne. This cause confusion and delay in arranging clearance and transportation for them in Port Harcourt.
The situation get worse when the Libyan team reject the bus provided by the NFF and arrange for their own bus. They only accept the security provided for them. All these issues make them claim they were mistreated, and they decide to retaliate when the Super Eagles visit Libya.
This incident raise questions about why Nigeria, a country with a large population and supposed influence, allow such mistreatment. The article compare Nigeria’s situation to a parable of the corn, beans, and squash, where the corn suffer because it choose to stand alone without the support of the beans and squash. Similarly, Nigeria’s failure to stand strong and condemn such mistreatment from other countries make it vulnerable to humiliation.
In another development, the Fuji music fraternity in Nigeria also dey experience its own commotion. Taye Currency, a protege of Pasuma, make a comment during a live show in Ibadan that Pasuma once sang like Obesere when he was starting out. This comment no go down well with Pasuma’s fans, and it add to the ongoing tension in the Fuji music community.
