Kort Don Approve Virtual Testimony for Witnesses for Emefiele Trial

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama has approved a request by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to present witnesses virtually in the trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

This decision was made to facilitate the smooth conduct of the trial, considering the logistical challenges that might arise from physical appearances. The court’s approval is a significant step in leveraging technology to enhance the efficiency of the judicial process.

Emefiele is facing various charges, and the virtual testimony will allow key witnesses to provide their evidence without the need for physical presence in the courtroom. This approach is expected to speed up the trial and ensure that all necessary testimonies are gathered in a timely manner.

The use of virtual testimony is becoming more common in Nigerian courts, reflecting a broader trend towards incorporating technology in legal proceedings to improve accessibility and efficiency.
