Lagos State na one of the states wey dey pay more than the new national minimum wage of N70,000. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announce on October 16, 2024, say Lagos State go pay N85,000 as minimum wage to workers in the state. He explain say dis decision dey based on the state’s capacity to afford it and the high cost of living in Lagos.
Kogi State also join the list of states paying above N70,000. Governor Ahmed Ododo approve N72,500 as the new minimum wage for state workers, and dis payment go start immediately after deliberations between the union and the government.
No other state apart from Lagos and Kogi don officially announce plans to pay above the N70,000 minimum wage. However, many states don commit to paying the N70,000 minimum wage as approved by the Federal Government. These states include Gombe, Ogun, Anambra, Katsina, Ebonyi, Ondo, Nasarawa, Oyo, Borno, Osun, and Benue.
While some states like Delta, Adamawa, Edo, Borno, Ekiti, Cross River, and Ebonyi have started paying the N70,000 minimum wage, they no dey pay above dis amount.
