Ogun State Don Deploy Over 5000 Health Workers For Measles Vaccination Campaign

Ogun State government don announce say dem go deploy over 5,000 health workers across the state for their 2024 measles vaccination campaign. According to the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, these health workers go immunize over one million children between the ages of nine months and five years across the 20 local government areas of the state.

The vaccination exercise go run from Saturday, October 19 to Friday, October 25. Dr. Coker explain say measles vaccination very important because children wey no receive the vaccine risk developing blindness, brain damage, and high fever that can cause seizures and deformity.

She mention that the state’s 2022 measles campaign lead to a significant drop in confirmed measles cases from 118 in October 2022 to just 15 in the same period in 2024. Also, there be a drop in Yellow Fever confirmed cases from 3 in October 2022 to 0 confirmed case in the same period in 2024.

The campaign go involve the use of government health facilities, churches, mosques, markets, schools, parks, and garages, among other designated temporary fixed posts. Dr. Coker urge parents and caregivers to take advantage of the free vaccination by taking their children to the designated centers across the 236 wards of the state.

The flagged-off ceremony for the campaign go take place on Friday at Saint Peters Anglican Primary School, Siun, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state by 11:00 am.
