Nigeria dey partner with global cybersecurity company, Cisco, to boost digital security and expand broadband infrastructure. This announcement come from the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, after him inspect the proposed facility for the new cybersecurity and broadband laboratory.
According to Minister Tijani, the government and Cisco been dey talk for months, especially during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) in New York, where dem reaffirm their commitment to support Nigeria’s digital transformation initiatives. The laboratory go focus on enhancing cybersecurity capabilities and expanding broadband infrastructure, which be part of Nigeria’s broader push to improve its digital economy.
Cisco don commit significant resources towards the project, working closely with the ministry. Minister Tijani commend Cisco’s senior leadership team, including Senior Vice President and Global Innovation Officer Dr Guy Diedrich and Executive Vice President and Chief People, Policy and Purpose Officer Francine Katsoudas, for their roles in facilitating the partnership.
In addition to this, NITDA and Cisco sign a Memorandum of Understanding in May focused on Artificial Intelligence and smart agriculture. The collaboration aim to achieve several things, including repurposing the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics to create an AI and cybersecurity experience and incubation center, establishing a broadband innovation center, setting up a smart agriculture demonstration farm, designing and deploying technology learning hubs, and incubating defense technology solutions.
This partnership be part of Nigeria’s National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, which seek to position the country as a leader in Africa’s digital economy by enhancing digital skills, infrastructure, and cybersecurity resilience.
