After several months, the Nigerian Correctional Service still no get update on the whereabouts of over 350 inmates wey escape from the Suleja and Maiduguri correctional facilities. The inmates escape due to severe flooding and rainfall earlier this year.
On April 24, heavy rains cause the walls of the Suleja Medium Security Prison in Niger State to collapse, leading to the escape of 119 inmates. Only 23 of these inmates don dey rearrested since then.
Another incident happen on September 9, when a ravaging flood trigger the collapse of the perimeter wall at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Maiduguri, Borno State. A total of 281 inmates flee after this incident, but only seven don dey recaptured.
The Nigerian Correctional Service no provide any update on efforts to recapture the runaway inmates. When The PUNCH contact the spokesperson, Umar Abubakar, for comment on Wednesday, he no respond to calls or messages.
