Nine months after the deadly explosion wey happen for Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State, victims of the incident still dey suffer and dey call for government intervention. The explosion, which occur on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, claim the lives of five people, injure 77 others, and damage 58 houses along Dejo Oyelese Street.
The affected residents, who speak through their Chairman, Yakubu Adedigba, under the auspices of Dejo Oyelese Vigilante Group, lament say their suffering no be small thing. Dem address journalists at Dilay Event Centre in Ibadan, the state capital.
According to dem, many of the victims no fit return to their homes and still dey squat with relatives and friends. Dem say some of the houses wey the blast destroy don overgrow with weeds and wild animals don invade dem.
Dem appeal to both the Federal and State Governments to do more to alleviate their sufferings. “As patriotic and loyal Nigerians, while we are grateful to the government of Oyo State for the past favour, we now passionately call on both the Federal and State Governments to do more to alleviate the sufferings of the residents of DOVG,” dem say.
Dem add say, “It is an understatement to say that we are in distress as many of us have not been able to return to our homes and are still squatting with relatives and friends. Most of us are Senior citizens who have no means at the twilight of our lives to embark on building new houses from our meagre resources.”
