Obiora Ifoh, wey be the National Publicity Secretary of Labour Party, don talk say the party still dey hold Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti in high esteem despite the ongoing conflict inside the party. Ifoh make this statement in an exclusive interview with ADEBAYO FOLORUNSHO-FRANCIS, where he address the crisis rocking the party and the alleged threat to sanction Obi and Otti over the contentious Nenadi Usman Caretaker Committee.
The conflict start after the inauguration of Nenadi Usman’s caretaker committee, which the Labour Party describe as a product of illegality. According to Ifoh, the committee no follow any law, whether Nigerian Constitution, electoral law, or Labour Party Constitution. Therefore, the party no recognise the committee and see their action as unlawful.
Ifoh say that Obi and Otti, who be key leaders of the party, were misinformed before taking the decision to support the caretaker committee. He believe say they will soon retrace their steps and return to the main fold of the party. The party no plan to sanction them because they see them as important leaders and stars of the party.
The Labour Party spokesman also talk about the need for unity in the party, especially after they lose the governorship election in Edo State. He say that the failure to have a united front cost them the election, but they are ready to bring back Obi and Otti and move forward. Their target be to rescue Nigeria in 2027, and they cannot do it with a divided house.
Ifoh emphasize that the party doors are wide open for anyone who want to stay and work towards the party’s programme and ideology. He say that the party need everyone, and they are not going to chase away anybody, especially their leaders).
