Lagos State Government don dey plan to partner with some Swedish firms to convert solid and liquid waste into energy. This move na part of their efforts to reduce energy costs and manage waste better for the state.
On Tuesday, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, meet with representatives from the Swedish firms at Alausa. Wahab talk say the project no be option but necessity for Lagos, as the state dey generate between 13,000 to 14,000 tonnes of waste per day.
Wahab say the state go continue to pay special attention to waste management, and dem see waste as one of the best resources everywhere. He also talk say the waste-to-energy project go help reduce the high cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Lagos, which dey affect the economy because of the current energy crisis in Nigeria.
The Commissioner mention say the project go also help mitigate environmental challenges like flooding, especially since Lagos be coastal city. He say the state dey work hard to decongest roads and make Lagos a 21st-century mega city, and this project go help reduce emissions in the long run.
Sara Ibru, the head of the delegation and representative of the Consul of Sweden and Business Promotion Officer at the Sweden Embassy in Abuja, say the Swedish firms dey willing to collaborate with Lagos State to turn solid and liquid wastes into valuable resources.
The organisations involved include Swedish Trade and Investment Council (Business Sweden), Honourary Consul of Sweden in Nigeria, Swedish Development Agency (SDA), NIR International Council of Swedish Industry, and Swedfund.
