Senator Ireti Kingibe, wey dey represent Federal Capital Territory senatorial district, don talk say she go lobby for more senatorial slots for FCT. She make dis statement on Wednesday during a town hall meeting wey she organize with National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies to discuss ‘Female Legislators Constituency Outreach.’
Kingibe talk about how tough it dey for her as a female senator in a male-dominated National Assembly. She also point out some disparities in palliatives and projects wey dey allocated to each constituency. She say, “I would like to say that going into the second year, I am more conversant with the way things work in government. I’m better at acquiring resources in the National Assembly. Now I have more time to interface with my community.”
She mention how she distribute two trailers of fertiliser to her constituency, but she feel say it no fair because other states with two to three senators receive more trailers. Kingibe say, “Just like other senators, I received two trailers of fertiliser, which I distributed. I am also lobbying to see how I can get more for the FCT because I feel it is unfair that other states, which have two to three senators, received two trailers each.”
Kingibe hope say with the right support from FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, dem go address dis disparity soon. She talk about how difficult it dey for her to lobby for projects wey go benefit her constituency, but she believe say with cooperation, dem go get it right.
She say, “I ran for office because I want to give back to society. But I must say, it’s been extremely difficult. I have been a senator for just under a year and a half, and it has not been easy. To begin with, the FCT is unique. It is not like every other state that has three senators. The FCT has only one.”
