On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command arrested a man named Emmanuel Oche for impersonating a Civil Defence officer. The arrest was made following intelligence reports about Oche’s suspicious activities around Aroma in Awka.
According to Commandant Maku Olatunde of the NSCDC Anambra State Command, operatives responded to the intelligence and apprehended Oche, a 55-year-old man from Agila Town in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State. At the time of his arrest, Oche was dressed in an NSCDC uniform.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Oche used the fake uniform to intimidate and exploit innocent victims. When questioned, Oche confessed to buying the NSCDC uniform from a second-hand cloth seller in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The State Commandant has ordered the Investigation and Intelligence Department to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the source of the uniform and the motive behind Oche’s impersonation. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, Oche will be charged to court.
Commandant Maku cautioned the public to be vigilant and discerning when approached by anyone claiming to be a Civil Defence officer, emphasizing the need to verify identities to avoid falling victim to such scams.
