UK No Endorse Yoruba Nation Petition – FG

Federal Government don clear air on top di report wey dey say UK endorse di petition wey Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, submit.

Di petition, wey dey call for di creation of Yoruba nation, was submitted at 10, Downing Street, London, last week. But di Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Amb Eche Abu-Obe, say di media reports on di petition be “highly misleading.”

Abu-Obe explain say di British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, was invited to talk on di matter. During di meeting, di High Commissioner say di media reports overblow di issue and dat di petition no get any backing from UK government agency or di UK Parliamentary Petitions Committee.

Di High Commissioner add say di delivery of di petition be part of established practice of receiving letters and petitions at 10, Downing Street, but it no mean say UK government endorse am. He also say UK government no dey concern itself with petitions wey concern di sovereign affairs of another country, and dat similar petitions don be rejected before.

Sunday Igboho, through his spokesman Olayomi Koiki, confirm on X (formerly Twitter) say di petition was submitted to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on behalf of Prof Adebanji Akintoye, leader of di Yoruba Nation movement.
