Al-Shalmani resignation come at a time when Libya national team, de Mediterranean Knights, dey prepare to face Nigeria in a crucial 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier. Libya already lose 1-0 to Nigeria in de first leg, and dem need win to keep deir hopes alive.
During him time as president, Libya football experience plenty challenges, including poor performance both at club and national team levels. De pressure on Al-Shalmani to resign been high, especially from some major clubs like Benghazi, Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar, and de Southern Region, who suspend dem participation in de Premier League for de next season.
De meeting where Al-Shalmani announce him resignation was attended by representatives of only four clubs out of 120, plus FIFA and CAF officials. Dis raise questions about de legitimacy of de meeting and how it represent de sports community.
