Edo Queens, Heartland, Bayelsa Queens Reach Semifinals for BOWFT

Defending champions Edo Queens Football Club of Benin-City have advanced to the semifinals of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT) after a convincing 4-0 victory over Abia Angels FC of Umuahia. The match, played at the University of Benin Sports Complex, saw Edo Queens’ winger Chioma Moses score twice, with Emem Essien and Folashade Ijamilusi adding one goal each.

In another quarterfinal encounter, Heartland Queens of Owerri secured a 1-0 win against Benin Republic’s Espoir FC at the Western Boys High School. Bayelsa Queens also qualified for the semifinals by defeating Fortress Ladies FC 2-0 at the same venue.

The last quarterfinal match between Nasarawa Amazons and Remo Stars Ladies was halted due to heavy rain with the score at 1-1 after 78 minutes. The match is set to resume today at 9 a.m. at the UNIBEN Sports Complex.

The BOWFT, now in its fourth edition, is a twelve-day tournament that started on October 6 and will conclude on October 17. The tournament, themed “Say No to Teenage Pregnancy and Abandonment,” is a initiative of the Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki.
