NIESV Chair DeMAND More Leadership Roles For Women

Folake Odusiga, the first female Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) Abuja branch, has called for more leadership roles for women in the profession. During her inauguration as the 13th chairman and the first female president of the Abuja branch, Odusiga emphasized the need to recognize and empower women in all aspects of the institution.

Odusiga highlighted the unique strengths women bring to leadership roles, stating that women’s roles are more significant when compared to those of men. She reflected on her journey, expressing hope that her leadership would inspire other women to engage actively within the institution. “In the past, our men didn’t want us to be in leadership,” she said, adding that her election as chairman will pave the way for more female participation.

One of her key visions is to encourage younger generations by involving them from secondary school level. Odusiga also underscored the importance of bridging the gap between the public and private sectors within the profession, advocating for greater collaboration between these sectors.

Her vision includes restructuring the constitution of the institution to ensure it works better for all members. By doing so, she aims to create a more inclusive and equitable environment that supports the advancement of women in leadership positions.
