Former Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Ogeibiri Orubebemi Enkumor, don dey talk say the suspension of Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and former governorship candidate, Chief David Lyon, no dey legal.
Enkumor say the suspension wey the APC factions in Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas announce no get any legal basis. Him point out say the Bayelsa State chapter of the APC no get any executive body from the state level down to the ward level due to a court order issued on January 20, 2023, by Judge L. T. Cocodia of the Yenagoa High Court. The court order nullify the party’s congresses held in September and October 2021 and impose an injunction preventing anyone from acting as executives of the party.
Enkumor declare the suspension as null and void, stressing that it constitute contempt of court. Him say, “The Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil) remains not only a bonafide member of our great party but also a well-respected leader within the party. The same can be said of Chief David Lyon as well as other chieftains listed in the suspension announced”.
The suspension was announced by the APC Chairman in Ekeremor Local Government Area, Mitin Eniekenemi Senator, who accuse Lokpobiri and others of anti-party activities, including working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 governorship election in Bayelsa State.
Enkumor conclude by lauding the leadership of Senator Lokpobiri, whose influence continue to unite major stakeholders within the party, including former Senator Degi Eremienyo and former House of Representatives member HRH Israel Sunny-Goli.
