The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) dey face serious crisis as the face-off between Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, don cause big division inside the party.
The conflict start from issues in Rivers State, where Wike and the current Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, no dey see eye to eye. This matter don escalate to the point where PDP governors publicly declare their support for Fubara and call for a review of the state congresses in Rivers State.
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, which dey led by Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, don suspend the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), because dem oppose Wike’s interests in Rivers State. This suspension happen after a rancorous NWC meeting.
The Ijaw National Congress (INC) don warn all parties involved to avoid actions or statements that could trigger ethnic conflict. INC’s National Publicity Secretary, Ezonebi Oyakemeagbegha, say the crisis is essentially a political dispute between Wike and Fubara, not an ethnic conflict.
The PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Sen. Adolphus Wabara, don urge the factional NWC members to restore peace and unity within the party. Wabara say the BoT is fully dedicated to fostering peace and progress within the PDP).
