In a recent interview, a young London-based tailor shared a heartfelt story about how his family initially opposed his ambition to pursue a career in fashion. Despite the strong familial ties and expectations, this aspiring designer found the courage to follow his dreams.
The tailor, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that his family had envisioned a more traditional career path for him, such as law or medicine. However, his passion for fashion and design could not be suppressed. He recounted the numerous family meetings where his relatives tried to dissuade him from pursuing what they saw as an unstable and unconventional career.
“Dem call plenty family meeting to try stop me,” he said. “Dem tell me say fashion no be stable job, say I go suffer. But I know say dis na my calling, and I no fit ignore am.”
Despite the initial resistance, the young tailor persisted. He enrolled in fashion design courses and began working under experienced designers to hone his skills. His dedication and talent eventually won over his family, who now support his career wholeheartedly.
“Now, dem dey proud of me,” he added. “Dem see say fashion na my passion, and dem dey support me every step of the way.”
