The Nigerian Human Rights Community (NIHRCO) don dey beg President Bola Tinubu to take action on the death threats wey dey face Folakemi, the daughter of human rights lawyer, Femi Falana.
The group talk say any attack on Falana be like attack on Nigeria’s civil rights movement, and dem describe Falana as a ‘storming icon’ in Nigeria’s human rights struggle.
In statement wey Taiwo Adeleye, official of NIHRCO, sign and make available to PUNCH Online, NIHRCO describe the threat as a ‘historical challenge’ to Nigeria. Dem urge President Tinubu to be on top of the situation and provide leadership in finding out those responsible for sending threats to Falana’s daughter.
This whole thing start after some accusations and lawsuits concerning the alleged defamation of Falana and his son, Falz, in the ongoing scandal involving popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky. Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, release a call recording where he accuse Falana of demanding N10 million to help Bobrisky get presidential pardon. Though VeryDarkMan later apologize, saying he no believe Falana involve in the alleged bribery.
Falana talk say one of his daughters receive death threats from anonymous person(s) with message that his daughter would be harmed if Falana proceed with litigation against VeryDarkMan. The sender(s) use cellphone to send the message, and since phone numbers no fit be registered in Nigeria without NIN, the identities of the criminals no suppose be difficult to unveil.
NIHRCO urge the public to be wary of “common criminals and rogues portraying themselves as defenders of the helpless Nigerians,” adding that many of them be professional blackmailers working as conscious state agents.
The group also talk say Nigerians know those to be held responsible if anything happen to Mr Falana or any member of his family. “Any attack on Mr Falana is an attack on the civil rights movement in Nigeria,” dem add.
