Di issue arise from Dokoupil’s approach during an interview with author Ta-Nehisi Coates on “CBS Mornings.” Dokoupil confront Coates on his opinions concerning di Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and at one point, he say certain sections of Coates’s book—which draw parallels between Israel’s treatment of Palestinians and Jim Crow laws—“would not seem out of place in di backpack of an extremist.”
CBS News leaders criticize Dokoupil on a call with di newsroom on Monday, saying his behavior no meet di organization’s editorial guidelines. However, Redstone disagree with dis criticism. She say, “They made an error in judgment,” and “I believe we all concur that dis situation was not handled appropriately.”
Redstone praise Dokoupil, saying, “Tony excelled in that interview. I believe he conducted himself well and exemplified what civil discourse should look like. He demonstrated accountability, and there exists a system of checks and balances. Honestly, I felt immense pride in di work he accomplished.”
