Plateau State LG Elections See Impressive Turnout, Despite Some Hitches

For di first time in six years, Plateau State dey witness local government elections, and di turnout be impressive, especially for Jos South. Residents of di state show strong commitment to di electoral process, as many of dem come out to cast their votes.

Dachung Musa Bagos, former member of di House of Representatives for Jos South and Jos East, express optimism after casting his vote at Girring Ward. He say dat di local government elections be crucial for electing di right leaders. “Dis be a pivotal moment for our democracy, and I believe dese elections will help bring forth capable representatives,” he state.

Silas Dung, di PDP Chairmanship candidate for Jos South, also share Bagos’s sentiment after voting in his polling unit. “I am satisfied with di way di elections are unfolding today,” Dung remark, highlighting di active participation observed across several local government areas by noon.

Despite di overall enthusiasm, some areas report lower turnout figures. Many voters attribute dis to di six-year hiatus in local elections in Plateau State. However, as of 12:36 PM, reports from various local government units indicate a positive trend, with many polling stations experiencing high voter turnout.

Security presence be heavy in Jos, di state capital, with Armoured Personnel Carriers and other security vehicles stationed at strategic locations. Governor Caleb Mutfwang describe di exercise as peaceful and well-coordinated after casting his vote at Pushik 1 polling Unit in Ampang West, Mangu Local Government Area.

PLASIEC, di Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, extend di voting time by two hours to 5 PM due to unforeseen challenges like late arrival of sensitive materials in some polling units. Di commission assure dat every vote will count and no eligible voter will be disenfranchised due to dese delays.

Senator Simon Lalong, former Governor of Plateau State, appeal to PLASIEC to maintain neutrality and conduct free and fair elections. He observe some challenges, including manual accreditation due to di failure of card readers and shortage of ballot papers in some areas.
