Mormon Church Leaders Urge Civility and Joy During Election Season

For di recent general conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one of di top leaders, Dallin H. Oaks, urge members to avoid negativity and hostility during di election season. Oaks, who be di second-highest leader in di faith, talk to over 18,000 church members in Salt Lake City and many others watching online.

Oaks emphasize say members should act as peacemakers in their communities and avoid conflict. He say, “In our pursuit of preferred policies through public actions, let us earn His blessings by adopting di language and approaches of peacemakers.” Dis advice come as both presidential campaigns intensify their efforts to sway voters in western swing states where many Latter-day Saints reside.

Di church’s leaders aim to maintain political impartiality but occasionally provide general guidance on how members should engage with significant elections. Approximately 7 million of di church’s 17 million global members live in di United States, with many in critical states like Arizona and Nevada.

In another development, Elder Patrick Kearon of di Quorum of di Twelve Apostles also speak during di conference, emphasizing di importance of joyful reverence during sacrament meeting. He say, “We are members of di Church of Jesus Christ. We are members of di church of joy.” Kearon encourage members to contribute to a spirit of joyful reverence by intentional worshiping, reflecting joy and gratitude, and approaching di sacrament with awe and gratitude.
