Virginia men’s basketball team don host their annual Blue-White Scrimmage for John Paul Jones Arena on Saturday evening, and it was a night to remember for UVA fans. The scrimmage give fans their first look at this year’s roster, which include five transfers and two true freshmen.
The team divide into two teams – Blue and White – and play three periods of 10 minutes each. For the first period, the White team start with Jalen Warley, Isaac McKneely, TJ Power, Elijah Saunders, and Blake Buchanan, while the Blue team start with Taine Murray, Ishan Sharma, Dai Dai Ames, Jacob Cofie, and Anthony Robinson. The White team win the first period 15-8.
In the second period, the Blue team come back strong and win 13-12. For the final period, the White team take the lead again and win 16-9. San Diego State transfer Elijah Saunders lead all scorers with 12 points, including two early three-pointers and an athletic one-handed flush.
Duke transfer TJ Power also score 10 points, hitting two three-pointers. True freshman Ishan Sharma score nine points in his first appearance at JPJ, while veteran Taine Murray score eight points and hit two three-pointers. Isaac McKneely and Kansas State transfer Dai Dai Ames each score seven points.
Before the men’s basketball portion of the scrimmage, there was a joint three-point shooting contest between the Virginia men’s and women’s basketball teams. Isaac McKneely and Olivia McGhee team up to take on Christian Bliss and Kymora Johnson. McKneely hit 22/25 three-point attempts to win the contest.
