England dey suffer for ODI as India win by 6 wickets for Edgbaston

England don suffer another ODI defeat, this time by six wickets against India for Edgbaston. The match na part of the three-match series wey India don lead 1-0.

England, wey dey fly for T20 cricket, still dey struggle for the 50-over format under head coach Brendon McCullum. Since McCullum take charge of white-ball teams last year, England don lose 13 ODIs and win only six, including three against lowly West Indies. Now dem don slip to eighth for world ODI rankings.

India, on the other hand, don bounce back after dem suffer 4-0 defeat for T20 series. Shubman Gill score silken 80 runs to help chase down target of 259 with 28 balls to spare. Gill also marshall im bowlers well well.

England captain Harry Brook misread the dry surface wey dey offer variable bounce for quicks. Brook select five spin options but only three seamers, leaving am short on genuine wicket-taking threat. An extra seamer would probably mean Liam Dawson miss out, but Dawson score 68 from 83 balls, plus Joe Root unbeaten 76, to give Brook something to work with.

England start well, reaching 61 without loss, but then collapse to lose six wickets for 46 runs. Gurnoor Brar, a strapping 6ft 5in quick from Punjab, shut down Jacob Bethell for 14 and get Ben Duckett caught for 43. Jasprit Bumrah, playing im first ODI since 2023 World Cup final, remove Brook for low score.

Jos Buttler score five, Sam Curran nought, and Will Jacks 20 as Prasidh Krishna pick up two wickets. England eventually bowled out for 258 inside 48th over, with Axar Patel take four for 62.

India chase start with Rohit Sharma (11) and Virat Kohli (5) falling cheaply, but Gill keep going. Shreyas Iyer run out for 35 via direct hit from Brook, and KL Rahul bowled for one. But Axar Patel (57 from 52 balls) and Washington Sundar (52 from 63) seal win with unbeaten half-centuries.

Brook say the first collapse na the difference. With few more runs and extra quick, maybe story go different. But as e be, India win comfortably. McCullum, now down to half of im previous responsibilities, need sharp upturn for results.
