Di management of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) don suspend two senior staff members and di Students’ Union Government (SUG) president over alleged illegal collection of money from students. Di affected officials be Olanrewaju Ogunjobi, Director of di Directorate for Educational Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship; Banji Rildwan Olaleye, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs and Support Services; and James Iyanuoluwa Adio, SUG President.
According to di university registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim, Ogunjobi and Olaleye dey accused of collecting ₦1,000 from each first-year student for practical classes wey di directorate organise, but without approval from university management. Di registrar tok say di university set up an investigative committee to examine di allegations and ensure fairness.
Di committee reportedly find out say Ogunjobi approve and collect di money without obtaining approval from university management or Senate. E also state say di funds no pass through di university bursary as regulations require. Olaleye dey accused of assisting in di collection of di money, despite im role inside student affairs department.
Di committee also allege say Adio, di SUG President, dey indirectly involved. According to di report, im participate in di initial sharing of di money and later request a refund, wey lead to transfer of ₦700,000 into im personal bank account.
Di university say di actions of di three officials contradict im efforts to promote transparency and accountability. FUOYE management stress say e no go tolerate student extortion, abuse of office, financial misconduct, or any act wey fit damage di institution’s reputation. Di suspended officials go face further administrative processes as di university continue investigation.
