Edo govt shut three schools for Akoko-Edo over kidnap threat

Edo State Government don order immediate closure of three secondary schools for Akoko-Edo Local Government Area. Dis one na follow intelligence report wey show credible security threat to students, staff, and communities around.

According to circular wey date June 9, 2026, and wey Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Education, Edo, Enodolomwanyi Otamere sign, the affected schools na Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School, and Makeke Secondary School for Makeke.

The government say the decision na based on security advisory wey dem receive from relevant agencies about threats for parts of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area. The temporary closure na to safeguard lives and property while security agencies dey intensify efforts to handle the situation.

All academic and non-academic activities for the affected schools don suspend until further notice. The Ministry direct principals of the affected schools to ensure safe release of students to their parents and guardians, secure school facilities during the closure, maintain communication with education and security authorities, and comply with any further directives from the government.

Security sources say the closure follow alert from Department of State Services (DSS) about planned mass abduction of schoolchildren by suspected bandits for Edo state. The DSS advisory, wey B.
