Frank Lampard join Netflix show for World Cup, Coventry fans go happy

Coventry City manager and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard don sign to appear as special guest for The Rest Is Football Podcast on Netflix this summer. The show go dey broadcast daily from 6am, starting on June 10, ahead of the World Cup for United States, Canada and Mexico.

Lampard go join Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Micah Richards and regular contributor Joe Cole to discuss the tournament and all the major talking points for football. The former midfielder dey among host of special guests wey include Harry Maguire, Millie Bright, Patrick Vieira, Romesh Ranganathan and Niall Horan.

The programme go dey filmed at Times Square for New York, wey go deliver expert match analysis, special guests, exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes footage from the most prestigious competition for world football.

Since he retire from playing, Lampard regularly feature as television pundit, dey offer authoritative analysis on matches. But im managerial duties for Coventry don make am step away from broadcasting commitments, until now.

The Sky Blues boss don perform admirably at the CBS Arena, steering Coventry back into the top flight as Championship winners. Im outstanding work don bring am to attention of several Premier League clubs wey get managerial vacancies this summer, among them Crystal Palace and, more recently, Fulham.

However, Sky Blues chairman Doug King make im position clear say he dey keen to retain Lampard at the club. Speaking earlier this year following speculation wey link the former Blues midfielder with return to Stamford Bridge, King tell BBC CWR: “He’s done a fantastic job, it’s been an incredible 18 months for us and for him.”

King add: “I am sure he’s in reflective mode. I said to him ‘do not underestimate how difficult what you’ve just achieved is to do’. He’s done huge things in his playing career but to get out of this league as champions without a parachute payment, from where we’ve come from, is a huge achievement nobody can take away from him.”

He continue: “Everybody is going to get linked with everything, it’s a merry-go-round. It’s a bit disappointing clubs are appointing three or four managers a season. We don’t want to be in those positions, that means something has gone a little bit astray.”

Lampard go reunite with Lineker, Shearer and Richards once more, having previously work with BBC and Amazon for punditry capacity. Speaking ahead of this summer’s tournament, co-host Shearer talk: “The World Cup is as big as it gets, and bringing The Rest Is Football to Netflix during the tournament is a brilliant opportunity to get stuck into the football properly.”

Shearer add: “There’ll be huge performances, big decisions, pressure moments and plenty for supporters to debate – exactly what we love talking about.” Richards say: “I’m absolutely buzzing for this. World Cup, Netflix, New York and The Rest Is Football on a massive stage – what more could you want?”

Richards finish: “It’s going to have everything people love about the show: proper analysis, big opinions, dressing-room stories and, knowing us, plenty of laughs as well.”
