Lagos attract $22m FDI, expand fibre network by 30,000km

Lagos State government don attract about $22 million in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) commitments to boost digital infrastructure across the state. The investment, wey dem secure through Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA), go help accelerate fibre optic rollout and improve broadband penetration, digital inclusion, and smart-city development.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, announce the development during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing for Alausa, Ikeja. According to am, LASIMRA attract FDI commitments worth about $22 million for deployment of high-quality fibre optic infrastructure across Lagos.

Daramola say LASIMRA facilitate additional investments for deployment of about 30,000 kilometres of 28-way fibre duct infrastructure along strategic corridors across the state. This one build on top of approximately 3,000 kilometres of fibre infrastructure wey dem don deliver before.

The infrastructure go improve internet connectivity, enhance broadband access, and support businesses wey dey operate inside Lagos rapidly expanding digital economy. Beyond attracting foreign capital, LASIMRA record 300 per cent increase in revenue generation during the review period, driven by improved permit processing systems, stronger regulatory compliance, and digital workflow platforms.

Daramola add say the agency dey advance the Automated Telecom Infrastructure Registration System (TIRS), a technology-driven platform wey go automate infrastructure registration, improve compliance monitoring, and speed up permit approvals for telecom operators. He also say as part of smart-city agenda, Lagos don deploy Geographic Information System (GIS) technology for mapping and monitoring fibre routes, telecom masts and towers, while dey advance rollout of 5G-enabled smart poles across the state.

Daramola explain say the initiatives dey aim to create a resilient and future-ready digital infrastructure ecosystem wey fit attract further investments, stimulate innovation, and support sustainable economic growth.

Meanwhile, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu don commend residents for their support over the last seven years of his administration. For a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu describe the period as a journey of shared sacrifice, resilience and collective progress. He say achievements wey dem record na because of support and partnership of Lagosians.

Sanwo-Olu say residents support don help for successes for key sectors like infrastructure, healthcare, education, transportation, youth empowerment and urban renewal. Despite global economic challenges, including COVID-19 pandemic and other socio-economic disruptions, the governor say im administration remain committed to implementation of THEMES+ development agenda.

He reaffirm commitment to complete ongoing projects and start new ones to improve welfare of residents. He also call on private sector and development partners to strengthen collaboration with state government to accelerate growth and development.
