FG declare Wednesday, Thursday public holiday for Eid-ul-Adha celebration

Federal Government don declare Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays for dis year Eid-ul-Adha celebration. Di announcement come from Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for statement wey im Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, release on Monday.

According to di statement, di Federal Government say di decision show dia respect for Islamic faith and di spiritual meaning of di celebration to millions of Muslims for Nigeria and across di world. Di minister congratulate Muslim faithful for Nigeria and for diaspora, describing Eid-ul-Adha as festival wey get root for sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity.

Im urge Nigerians to use di festive period to pray for di country and support efforts towards national peace, security, and prosperity. Di statement add say di government urge all Nigerians to use dis period for prayer and sober reflection, dey ask for divine guidance upon di country as e continue im pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity for every citizen.

Di government further wish Muslims peaceful and joyous celebration, while dey call for unity, brotherhood, and mutual understanding among Nigerians. Eid-ul-Adha, wey dem also call Eid-el-Kabir or Festival of Sacrifice, be one of di most important celebrations for Islam and Muslims all over di world dey observe am.

Meanwhile, travellers don begin to move across many parts of di country, including Lagos, ahead of di holiday period. As part of measures to make road safer during di celebrations, di Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kwara State Sector Command, say dem don deploy 950 personnel, including officers, marshals, special marshals, and first responders, across di state. Di command say dem also position 16 patrol vehicles, four ambulances, and 70-tonne tow truck to support traffic management and emergency response during di festivities.

Dem advise motorists to comply strictly with traffic regulations, with FRSC warning against offences like speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, use of mobile phones while driving, tyre violations, lane indiscipline, and seatbelt violations.
