Di African Democratic Congress (ADC) don call for peace and discipline among members as dem dey prepare for presidential primaries wey go hold on Monday. Dis appeal come as internal wahala dey tear di party.
For statement wey dem release, di party National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, urge all presidential aspirants, delegates, and party faithful to behave demsef well during di exercise. Di call come just after one rival faction wey di party 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu lead, announce say dem don dissolve David Mark-led National Working Committee and also name Kachikwu as dia sole candidate.
Di Kachikwu faction accuse Mark leadership of hijacking di party structure and abandoning internal democracy. Dem insist say dia decision na to protect di party original ideals. Abdullahi describe di coming primaries as a defining democratic moment for ADC and for Nigerians wey dey search for credible political alternative.
“Di ADC remain proud to stand today as di only truly democratic party for Nigeria because na only party wey dem choose presidential candidate through open primaries,” di statement tok. Di party say how all participants dey behave before, during, and after di primaries go show di kind leadership culture wey di party want promote.
“We therefore urge all aspirants, dia supporters, delegates, and party faithful to conduct demsef peacefully, responsibly, and with dignity throughout di process. Dis election must reflect di values we claim to represent as a party committed to transparency, internal democracy, national unity, and di rule of law,” di spokesperson state.
Abdullahi acknowledge say disagreements na normal for democratic contests but stress say di bigger goal of rebuilding Nigeria and restoring public confidence for leadership must remain important. “At di end of dis exercise, there will be no winners or losers within di ADC family. Di ultimate objective na to emerge stronger, more united, and fully prepared to offer Nigerians di competent and credible leadership dem deserve.”
He also assure members say measures dey in place to guarantee free, fair, and credible primary process. “History go judge us, not just by who emerge as candidate, but by how we conduct ourselves for dis defining moment. We call on every member of our great party to rise to di occasion,” di statement add.
According to report, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen don clear to contest di primary election.
