Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage don yarn say di record label wey artist sign to dey affect their mental health and wellbeing well well. She talk dis matter for Afrobeats Intelligence podcast wey Joey Akan dey host.
Savage explain say she no really sabi di importance of label support until she comot from Mavin Records. According to her, for Mavin, whenever wahala dey online, she fit run go meet label boss Don Jazzy for im room, sit down for floor or bed, and yarn with oda Mavin artists. She go cry if she need to cry, and dem go solve am together.
But now wey she dey with foreign label, she say dem no really care about personal matters. She talk say, “Who you sign to is very important and I no appreciate am until I left Mavin. Whenever there’s controversy online, I go run to Don Jazzy’s room, sit for floor or bed with oda Mavin acts, and we go talk about am. I go cry if I need to cry and we go get through am. But being with a foreign label, dem no really care about your personal stuff. So, I no fit go to di office and cry. I miss dat part.”
Tiwa Savage sign to Mavin Records for 2012 and leave for 2019 go join Universal Music Group. Even after she leave, she still dey see Mavin as family.
