Former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, don land inside serious wahala as Justice James Omotosho of Federal High Court Abuja sentence am to 75 years imprisonment for N33.8 billion fraud.
Na the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) bring Mamman before court on 12 counts of fraud. And the judge find am guilty on all counts.
For each of the 10 counts, Mamman get seven years prison. For count four and five, e get three years and two years respectively. But the judge order say all the sentences go run one after the other, no option of fine except for count four wey get N10 million fine option.
Worse still, Mamman no even dey present for court when the sentence read. So Justice Omotosho order say the sentence go start from the day the convict arrest. And e don direct all security agencies, including Interpol, to arrest Mamman anywhere dem see am.
The court also order say all foreign currencies recovered from Mamman and four choice properties for Abuja wey trace to am must forfeit to federal government. Plus, Mamman go pay the remaining balance for N22 billion wey dem mean for Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power project.
This case na big lesson for public officers wey dey chop money wey no be their own. EFCC don show say dem no go relent for fight against corruption.
Mamman, wey serve as Power Minister from 2019 to 2021, now face long years for prison. The judgment don send strong signal to everyone wey dey think say dem fit steal public funds.
