Na Tuesday night, around 8:45 pm, as rain dey fall like sey dem pour water from bucket, the tree wey don dey weak because of strong wind and decay just crash on two vehicles wey dey drop passenger.
Na so e be say people wey enter Toyota Hiace bus and Sienna minivan just find demself trapped for the mess. SP Daniel Ndukwe, the police PRO, talk say dem don rush the 11 victims go hospital, but una sabi na wetin dem confirm – dem don enter land of no return.
With the quick response from 9th Mile Division and some local champions wey dey there, dem rescue four people wey still dey alive and quickly carry dem go hospital. The police say their remains don enter morgue for necessary procedures.
The whole matter don scatter the Awhum community as dem dey mourn. The Commissioner of Police don send condolence message to families wey lose loved ones, and e don talk say make all community leaders check those old trees wey dey around market, park and school, especially during dis rainy season.
Na wetin the CP talk be say, safety na key. E dey advise say make dem inspect trees wey fit fall, so we no go hear say person don waka go village just because of tree fall. This one na call for serious wahala!
Eyewitnesses wey dey there talk say na serious gbege as dem hear loud noise when the tree fall. One person talk say people dey scream for help, and the whole scene no be for faint heart. E be like movie, but na real life!
The community done jara with cleanup and safety measures so that dis kind palaver no go happen again. Dem dey also shout say make government come do wetin dem need to do to avoid another wahala.
