No be small matter as Muslims around the world don dey prepare for Ramadan wey go start for February 18 or 19, depending on whether dem fit sight di crescent moon. Dis holy month dey last anywhere between 29 to 30 days, and e get plenty better culture wey dey follow am.
During dis period, observant Muslims go dey fast from dawn till dusk, no food, no water, nothing! E fit range from 12 to 15 hours based on where you dey for di world. E no be joke at all, my people. Dis time na to reflect, pray, and dey get closer to God as dem believe say na dis month Prophet Muhammad receive di first verses of di Quran.
Ramadan dey waka just like Naija market bus, e dey come 10 to 12 days earlier every year because di Islamic calendar dey follow di lunar cycle. But you sabi say for di Northern Hemisphere, fasting hours go decrease small; how e go be for 2031 when Ramadan go front to winter solstice? E go really hot!
For people wey dey live for di Southern Hemisphere like Chile and South Africa, dem go experience longer fasting hours, last year don pass o. E no dey easy for fasting Muslims to hold body for so many hours without food or water, but na wetin dis season dey bring – self-discipline and consciousness of God.
You fit hear ‘Ramadan Mubarak’ or ‘Ramadan Kareem’ as greetings during dis period. E mean say ‘Happy Ramadan’ and ‘Generous Ramadan’ respectively, and e dey fly everywhere! Dis one go even add small beer for di matter! Employers too get work for there; dem fit give workers flexible hours or quiet place to pray and break fast. Everybody need respect for di beliefs.
And make I tell you, not all Muslims dey observe this Ramadan sama way. Some people fit de fast, others fit need to chop for di day if dem sick, pregnant or breastfeeding. So, e go do well if employers sabi di individual needs of their workers so dem fit accommodate properly with our Naija mind!
For places wey dey full of Muslims, dem dey prepare well-well. Sighting di moon go be plenty buzz for February 17, and wetin dem go see go determine di start date. Nigeria dey do am sharp sharp, everybody on di lookout! Wetin e mean be say, if dem no sight di moon, then Ramadan go move small. Everybody dey hustle for di right time!
As we dey gear up for dis holy month, we go also dey eye Laylat Al-Qadr, when di first verses of di Quran take land. Dis special night dey happen in di last 10 days of Ramadan but e fit be 27th night. Dis night dey hold plenty blessings o!
When all patterns don fall into place, Ramadan fit end around March 19 with Eid al-Fitr wahala wey go begin di celebration, time for food, gifts, and di joy to break fast. Make we dey look out for di crescent moon together, my people; dis one go be epic!
