My people, gist don burst again! Na Senator Seriake Dickson dey tell Senate make dem no play play with electoral amendment bill wey dem dey discuss.
This whole matter e started as di House of Representatives gree for proper electronic transmission of election results, but di Senate come carry come one wetin get caveat. Na wah!
Dickson, wey dey represent Bayelsa West, don yan say if dem touch di electronic transmission provision, e fit scatter electoral integrity wey we dey try build. Him dey call on di Senate-House joint committee say make dem no change di plan wey dem agree for House side.
Di senator no fit hold him anger as him talk say him feel bad when him hear di Senate remove crucial clause wey dem agree on. Na so him call emergency meeting to reinstate di clause, but with small small talk wey fit allow manual results if electronic one fail. Him dey fear say dem fit use dat one dey manipulate things.
“Na because we want our election wey go stand gree for free and fair process,” Dickson talk, as him dey push make INEC fit transmit results electronically without wahala. E talk say na only dat way go fit sure say any palava wey dey happen for collation centres no go carry come wahala.
As di matter dey hot, e also tell us say, “Nigerians, make una dey vigilant and active for dis democracy matter. No dey drop your hand, we need dem to join hand to ensure say our votes dey count.”
At di emergency session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announce say dem go expand di committee from nine to twelve members to make sure say di bill gree well. Dem also plan to carry di final copy go President Bola Tinubu make e sign before di month end. Na wetin we dey wait for, so make we dey watch di drama unfold.
Dickson yarn say we suppose support di electoral process by voting, mobilising, and insisting on electronic transmission. E make am clear say where dem mess with gambling for collation centres, na there di real fight for democracy dey happen. Dem no go fit change di results once dem don transmit am fast after di polling.
We go keep our eyes on di matter as more civil society groups dey join di fight to clean up di mess for Nigerian electoral system. No be all dis koko we wan see, my people. Na better electoral integrity we dey push for!
