My people, dis one wey dey happen for Enugu State no be small matter o! Families for Umuedenwoko village don raise alarm say dem dey rob dem of their ancestral land, and dem dey point finger at nothing less than Nigeria Police Force. Wetin happen be say, judgement wey court don give since 2023 no dey respected, and land wey dem say na for police school don turn to private estate project.
This land matter dey hot since 2023 wen High Court for Enugu talk say dis 37.15-hectare land na for the Umuedenwoko family. Court don clear say dem no get any business to grab the land for police school matter. But instead of police to respect the ruling, na private developers wey dey build estate dey use the land now.
One family member wey dem call Mr Chikwendu Nnam talk say, “E get as e be! The police no even gree show face for court. Wetin dem come gain for this land matter wey dem no reason at all?” Na serious wah o! Since August 2010, dem don start to destroy the farmland wey the family don dey use for years, na wetin dem go now call police secondary school na im dem claim say dem dey do.”
Abeg, who go believe say police dey use bulldozer dey clear farm produce wey dey grow there? Some elders from the community, like Mr David Okenwa, don testify how dem destroy palm trees and mango trees wey dey there since time. Dem no fit even know wetin happen when dem see billboard wey dey claim say na police secondary school location.
The thing wey dey vex pepper everybody na say court don already rule say na the family get that land, yet nothing don happen since then. The police say dem no do any wrong, but as e be, lawmakers suppose dey shine eye for this kind matter wey fit become wahala between community people.
Naija Police Force wey dey fully involved no dey even represent themself for court matter. “We just dey feel say na to push us to side wey no go make anybody question wetin dey happen,” Chikwendu talk. “Na like say dem just dey distract the public to make nobody look closer.” Everybody dey ask, wetin police school dey do wey fit require 37 hectares of land for development? E be like say dem don turn small matter into big wahala!
Dem family members don dey cry out say their livelihood don dey affected. All these destruction wey police dey allow happen no fit be the police wey protect and serve. Naija Police Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin talk say dem still dey focus on building police school for that land, but wetin dem provide na just shakara and empty promises.
People dey ask, if this kind thing fit happen for this area, wetin go happen to other communities wey dey face similar land encroachments? As it be now, all we fit do na to watch how wetin suppose be for the community go turn to private estate not just for their eyes, but for all of us wey dey look from outside.
