The Lagos Sector Commander, Kehinde Hamzat, no dey play as e talk say dem go face serious penalties if dem caught red-handed. E talk this one on Monday when e dey yarn with Channels Television for the midst of serious traffic jam wey dey happen because of the ongoing work.
As e dey so, some vehicles wey carry government and security personnel dey still dey drive one-way jare, even after dem don warn them. Hamzat don call am outright abuse of office, say dem no suppose dey do am at all! Na side for Opic turning, e don catch some drivers wey dey misbehave.
“We don collect their details plenty times,” Hamzat yan, “If we see you dey do am, we go report you to the proper authorities!” This one no be play matter, as wetin dem fit face from their management fit pass the punishment wey FRSC go dish out.”
Traffic jam no dey be small, as repair work for Kara Bridge go last at least two months wey no be joke. This kind jam plenty people dey dodge vehicle wey dey come but na wetin dey cause accidents on top the road. To quick finish the work, dem dey fix two expansion joints at once using materials wey dey cure fast. Dem dey root out overloading too, as dem go deploy weighbridges to catch those wey think say dem fit escape that one.
Hamzat don talk say make all motorists get patience during dis period wey dem dey repair. “We don set everything in place to ensure sey no body dey drive against traffic again. From Warewa, we don block those wey dey try enter the long bridge,” e yan confidently.
He don commend all the security agencies wey dey there to help out—Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, and the FRSC personnel all dey in charge of enforcement. “Even if traffic go dey slow for those wey dey enter Lagos, na better move than make both sides jam completely,” na wetin e dey try explain to us.
“If we allow one-way driving for those critical points like Opic turning, e fit cause solid gridlock wey go affect traffic for both directions. Hamzat also don talk say plenty drivers don collect their own share of wahala for driving against traffic as dem don arrest dem already. “We go fine dem and dem go dey answer for court matter, no shaking!”
For enforcement matter, the sector commander talk say dem go dey on ground throughout the repair work, making sure sey people dey follow rules. “Our men dey rotate shifts to ensure sey safety dey happen as this project dey continue.”
