Old Girls Dem Gather for Our Lady of Apostles 70th Anniversary Gist

Na big wahala of joy and nostalgia wey dey happen for Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Yaba, Lagos as dem celebrate 70 years of excellence. Old girls wey don waka come back wear their old school uniform, no be small matter o! Na serious reunion dem dey do under the ‘Back to School’ initiative.

According to Josephine Effa-Chukwuma, wey be former national president of the Old Girls Association, this anniversary no be just any small gisting matter; na time for dem to gather, reconnect and even plan how to help the current students. She talk say, “This school don clock 70 years. We decide to come back, almost all the year sets dey represent.” Na big family reunion be this, my people!

Making the matter sweeter, dem even organize some mentorship programmes and digital initiatives to help the students. Chukwuma gree talk say, “We sabi say technology don change plenty, so we no fit just sit down dey watch. We go help our younger ones find their way.” Dem even host debate wey showcase the difference between the own tech experience and wetin the kids dey enjoy now.

Current president of the association, Yewande Deji-Omotayo, no sit down for the matter, she don dey work hard to connect dem together. She dey focus on strengthening the bond wey dey between past and present students. “Mentoring na the key. E no dey waka away!” Na wetin she talk, and she dey push for better digital facilities for the school so that dem go fit compete for the tech world.

Margaret Obiwo wey be retired Lieutenant Colonel and don pass through the school from 1964-1968, talk about the joy wey dey flow for this reunion. “E don make us dey bond for life, we be one family.” Na true talk, my people! Dem really dey enjoy as dem dey plan series of activities like Thanksgiving Mass, Prize-Giving Day, and a gala night wey dem call “A Night of African Elegance.”

Activities dey go run from March to June 2026. Dem get plenty plans, like visit to women’s correctional centre and career day wey go help the girls learn skills wey go make them shine.

As dem dey plan this ground-breaking anniversary, one thing wey dey show na say, Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School no go ever forget their past, and dem dey ready to carry the future go higher!
