Omo, big news dey ground for Kano as Seed Project Company wey don change name to SeedPro Africa launch their brand new vegetable seeds processing facility. Dis one go help boost local tomato and pepper seed production wey we sabi dey rely too much on import before.
Dr. Zainab Gwadabe, the CEO of SeedPro Africa, na the person wey carry this gist come. During the company 20th anniversary for Kano, she no just talk am, e be like say dem dey serious as dem bring six new tomato and pepper varieties come market. Dis variety go help farmers manage the wahala wey dey come from foreign exchange wahala wey dey affect agricultural inputs.
Gwadabe talk say dem go roll out four types of tomato and two types of pepper. Two of the tomato varieties dey heat-tolerant – meaning say dem fit grow am for wet season, while the other two dey bio-fortified with beta carotene for better nutrition. Na so dem pepper varieties still dey heat-tolerant. Na real innovation this o!
She also talk say SeedPro Africa no go stop for here, dem gatz expand their product portfolio before year end, just to reduce the wahala wey dey come with seed importation and also shield our farmers from dollar wahala. Na real grassroots move, this.
As Gwadabe dey shine light on how far dem don come in the past 20 years, she mention say dem dey among the first five registered seed companies for Nigeria. Omo, dem dey rep Kano State well well! Naija get over 600 registered seed companies but SeedPro Africa dey show strong leg for the waka since dem start.
Mr. Michael Adibe, Senior Portfolio Officer of the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund, add more gist as he talk about wetin AECF dey do with SeedPro Africa. Dem dey partner to support women and small agribusinesses for Kano. AECF dey help about 5,000 farmers, dey give dem tools, fertilisers and training, especially to women farmers wey dey try their best.
Adibe also yarn say the partnership go run from December 2024 to November 2027, and dem dey target to reach 5,000 women farmers and produce up to 10 metric tonnes of seeds each year. E sure me say this one go really help our women farmers make dem dey chop better money. E go make sense if each woman fit earn between $500 to $1,000 as dem dey do their farming well.
Dis development for Kano no be small matter, e go change the narrative for agriculture in Nigeria o! If dem fit pull this one through, na real power we dey talk. Make we dey watch as dem dey act!
