Wahala don burst for Murtala Muhammed Airport as cargo agents don halts all cargo processing. Dem protest over FAAN wey sabi increase cargo tariffs like sey dem wan dash us money. Na last week dem report am, and since then, no cargo dey move! E be like movie for ground!
As the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders talk am, dem don join mouth for this matter wey dey scatter ground. FAAN no send dem letter since January 27, sey dem go increase rate from N7 per kilogram to N25. Na wah! E mean say, na 257 per cent increase. Abeg, who fit pay that kain price?
Segun Musa, wey na Deputy President of NAGAFF, talk say, “Our people don talk sey no be today. We no fit pay that new price, so we no go process any cargo. Wetin we go do?” Dem dey follow the matter well well, waiting for FAAN to show dem how dem wan run things.
Frank Ogunnojemite, wey be President for Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics, also talk sey no be so things dey go. He confirm sey dem never really enforce the new tariff, even dey beg FAAN make dem come sit down, reason together and find better way.
FAAN no gree change dem mind, as spokesperson Henry Agbebire clear sey operations don dey waka smooth, and dem no plan to hiawah the tariff increase. He talk sey, “Dem agents dey comply, we dey go on with the tarff.” No be small matter o!
So, Wetin FAAN dey talk? Dem say e don dey plan this tariff increase since 2008, and inflation don high pass Naira. But all the freight dudes no dey gree, dem argue sey wahala go dey for business, and naija goods go dey cost too much outside.
Ogunojemite from APFFLON don yell sey, dis increase na bad timing, talk sey e no go help small businesses. Dem dey use air cargo to move senren and wey FAAN dey do so fit make people look for alternatives like truck or train. Wetin dey happen for ground be sey we go soon see major trouble for air transport.
FAAN still dey insist sey their charges dey competitive for sub-region, but the agents no dey hear word. Airtime na big game, and e be like sey them dey forget the local wey dem dey cut from this airspace.
FAAN don also drop say dem go use di money wey dem go collect from dis tariff to improve airport infrastructures and dey roll out better systems to make everything dey function well. But the freight agents still dey fight back, dey warn sey dis one fit make dem suffer!
So as we dey follow this gist, we go see wetin go happen next for this cargo wahala. Naija people, wetin una think? Dis one fit change how we dey move goods for land? Make we dey watch am, e fit turn anywhere.
