Dem gather to honour the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, wey don dey 60 years since dem assassinate am during Nigeria first military coup on January 15, 1966. Na real serious matter as dem dey remember am for Ilorin, the state capital.
As dem dey perform the prayer, dem no just remember Sir Ahmadu Bello alone, but dem also recognize recently deceased Gamjites wey don waka come meet their ancestors. People like Mal Gidado Bello (G.B.O Bello), wey be former principal private secretary to late Governor Mohammed Lawal, and Imam Kayode Eleshinla dey among dem. Alhaji Muritala Orire, Alhaji Salam Salam, Alhaji Saka Shiru, Alhaji Sidiku Omoda, and Alhaji Muhideen Alanamu na other names wey don join the great beyond.
Dem also pray for other notable departed figures wey don shine for Ilorin, like late Chief Imam, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Solih and Alhaji Mahe Abdulkadir, wey be former Chief of Staff to the Kwara State Governor. No forget Prof Badmas Yusuf, wey be former Dean for University of Ilorin School of Postgraduate Studies, as he just waka go the other side last Friday.
Alhaji Ibrahim Danmaigoro, Senior Special Assistant on Religion (Islam) to the Kwara State Governor, na him lead the solemn session. Him no forget to yarn say make all Gamjites and Muslims try follow the good ways of Sir Ahmadu Bello and other great men wey don pass, like generosity, humility, simplicity, and selfless service.
President-General of GAMA, Alhaji Mohammed Akanbi, come talk say e dey pain dem to lose such people but at the same time, dem dey find comfort in the legacies wey dem leave behind. Him come also thank Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for di support wey him dey show GAMA and Dr Mohammed Alaaya, wey be former non-executive director for Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, wey help facilitate the prayer session.
No be only dem dey present o, dignitaries plenty! Senior Adviser and Counsellor to the Governor, Alhaji Saadu Salahu; former Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Nurudeen AbdulRaheem; and Justice Tunde Garba (wey don retire) plus children of the late Gamjites all dey their to show their respect.
