My people, make we gather small gist wey dey hot for town. E no go sweet for some people, but we sabi say NAFDAC don return to full enforcement of di ban wey dem place for alcohol wey dey packaged for sachets and small bottles wey dey below 200 millilitres. Na December 2025 dem wan run dis run run finish, no be today wey dem start am.
The big oga for NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, don yan say dem no close down any alcohol factory o. Wetin dey happen na just status protective for our pikin dem and all di vulnerable people wey dey waka around. No be say dem wan spoil business; dem wan make sure say the wahala wey dey follow alcohol no go enter di hands of children and young people.
You go fit remember say di Nigerian Senate and di Federal Ministry of Health don support dis wahala wey NAFDAC dey push. Dem insist say alcohol for sachet and small pack na big wahala wey dey contribute to rising cases of addiction, road accidents, and even school dropouts. Na so dem sabi say e fit cause domestic violence too, my people! E hard to believe, but dem no dey play with dis matter.
Prof. Adeyeye talk say “dis ban no be punishment o, e be protective measure.” E no dey sweet as e sound, but na im go help us protect di health of our children. She talk say di research and public health wey dem see from past don show say dis small packages dey make alcohol too cheap to access and easy to hide.
Imagine small pikin dey hide sachet alcohol for school. One teacher don talk say student tell am say e no fit sit for exam without first taking sachet alcohol. Na wah! You fit see say di matter dey serious and e concern all of us.
During di December of 2018, NAFDAC, Ministry of Health, and other bodies come sign agreement wey dey give di industry five years to adjust. But now, di deadline don dey close up. When e reach January 31, 2024, dis sachet packaging go finish for good, or wetin dem dey call moratorium. Dis time around no be play; dem dey serious. Abeg, dem don extend di deadline safe to December 2025, na wetin dey show say dem no go take nonsense from anybody.
Prof. Adeyeye talk say di aim na to make sure say children no fit easily access alcohol. If dem get large pack size, e go dey difficult to hide am. Na wetin we dey talk o! Dem don dey plan to carry dis gist go far and wide, dey work with agencies and keep dey make people sabi di health dangers of alcohol misuse.
So, my people, make we gear up and prepare our mind for dis new change wey dey come. E go change di way plenty people dey take alcohol, especially di youngsters wey dey under di radar. NAFDAC don show dem no be small thing wey dem dey handle!
