Lawyers Don Protest Make Government Pay Contractors Weh Dem Owe

Lawyers wey dey call demself Concerned Lawyers for Probity and Justice don hold im protest for Federal Ministry of Finance for Abuja to support contractors wey dey cry say dem no get payment for work wey dem don finish. The protest dey light up as dem gather with members of Enough is Enough Movement and All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria.

According to dem, contractors dey owed ₦4 trillion wey suppose don land for dem hand for capital projects wey dem don execute for government agencies. You fit imagine say this protest na continuation of many other protest wey don happen recently, wey even make activity for ministry headquarters jam. E be like say na real gbege be this!

During di protest, di lawyers no carry mouth go house, dem yan say make government urgent do something for di contractors matter. E be like say some contractors don see small money after di last protest for December 2025, but many still dey wait for di full payment wey dem don verify.

One lawyer, Precious Okoh, come release statement after di protest, wey talk say di delay for payment don put im colleagues and their families for serious wahala. Dem dey borrow money from banks wey dey charge high interest rate to fund di projects, now dem dey face serious financial pressure; banks don dey seize homes, cars and even other property. Na wah o!

Okoh talk say, “Wives and children dey watch their breadwinners dey sink into depression. Entire family don scatter, dreams don break, and dem future dey hang for edge because di money wey dem suppose receive never show.” Di matter dey affect job opportunities and di whole construction sector, as contractors dey employ thousands of people like masons, engineers, and labourers wey need this work to survive.

“When payment no dey come, work disappear, people no fit buy wetin dem need, and di market dey suffer too. Na true say a nation wey no support its builders dey starve itself from progress!” Okoh talk.

Di lawyers come carry di 1999 Constitution come back dem side, as dem quote Section 15(5) wey talk say state suppose abolish all corrupt practices. Di Section 16(2)(b) dey also talk say government suppose manage resources sabi-sabi to make citizens happy. If dem fit settle di verified claims of di contractors, e go pump important cash into di economy and help national development. Na so dem reason am!

Finally, di group yan say dem dey call on President Bola Tinubu make e step in quick-quick to release di money wey dey for verified projects. If di matter no fit resolve, dem go dey consider di law side to take di matter go court because no any wahala go finish before contractor dem get wetin dem deserve!
