As e be now, dem 2,116 retirees go dey collect combined monthly pensions wey reach N159.95 million, compared to just N12.56 million wey dem dey collect before. So, wetin be N12 million, now turn to almost N160 million—na wetin we call serious upgrade!
Omolola Oloworaran, wey be the director-general of PenCom, na the person wey drop dis gist for Abuja. She talk say this na the first time dem go increase pension for NSITF since 21 years! Na good news for our senior citizens as dem go fit enjoy the benefits wey dey come with their hard work.
And abeg, no be only increase dey ground o! Dem don pay N8.70 billion for pension arrears wey dey owe dem retirees. Each retiree go see this money well well, as dem go collect average of about N3 million each. E good to be retiree today sha!
Oloworaran say the monthly pension don increase from N18,000 to N206,000. E mean say the grind wey some people dey face don reduce small. Dis increase no be small pickin matter, na big fish matter!
How dem take do am? Na because NSITF fund don sabi grow well well, from N54 billion wey dem carry come in 2005, now e don reach N195 billion by December 2025. Na financially wise management and correct oversight from PenCom make all dis possible.
PenCom no forget the rules wey dey guide pension scheme. According to the Pension Reform Act, dem suppose dey review benefits every five years. But gree. Na since 2005 wey dem no do am. So, dem don invoke Section 53 of the PRA 2014 say make dis review happen sharp-sharp!
Dem also don bring out new digital solution called “VerifyMe” to help with pensioner revalidation, so make e no dey hard on our pappas and mamas. No more wahala for physical verification, now dem go fit do everything for police.
To round am up, dis na major win for the retirees. Dem don finally gree say old age no go mean poverty again. Na small small things dem dey do to ensure say our pensioners dey enjoy better since dem don serve the country with all their heart.
